Combining them into a claim that Google’s managed agents were fully production-ready would erase the boundary the release notes explicitly preserved.
The alias change also made platform governance part of the event. Pinning latest provides upgrades without a migration commit, but it can quietly change outputs, latency, or tool behavior overnight. Pinning a numbered model offers more stability while making the application team responsible for migration. A seemingly lightweight Flash update therefore lands in regression tests, staged rollouts, and rollback plans. Gemini 3.5 Flash did not arrive with enough independent evidence to settle a leaderboard argument. It left a clearer signal about product segmentation: the high-throughput tier was now expected to carry heavy work. The useful test was not to amplify adjectives from the changelog. It was to observe whether real agents could still finish after hundreds of tool interactions—and how much time and money a completed run consumed.
